I'm Michael Merchan, the videographer and photographer behind Merchan Films. I run the studio from Orange County and stay directly involved from the first planning conversation through the final delivery. That gives clients one accountable point of contact, a clear plan before production, and a consistent visual standard across both photo and video.
Originally from the beautiful "La isla del encanto," Puerto Rico, my journey into storytelling began when I was just 14 years old, navigating the world of track athletics. Starting with documenting my training and competitions, I gradually found myself crafting videos that resonated with my friends and community. Over time, my passion for storytelling evolved, with a keen focus on achieving that coveted "cinematic look" in my work.
This passion led me to move from Puerto Rico to California in 2014, and pursue a career in video production, culminating in a Bachelor's Degree in Cinema and Television Arts from California State University, Northridge.
Today I work with couples, agents, schools, athletes, graduates, and businesses. The subject changes, but the experience stays practical: we define what the work needs to accomplish, prepare the people and locations, direct the shoot without making it feel stiff, and deliver organized files in the formats agreed before the camera rolls. When a project needs more hands, I bring in a trusted crew while remaining responsible for the work.

What kinds of projects do you take on?
Brand videos, school and athletics stories, real-estate media, portraits, proposal and engagement photography and videos, wedding photography and video, and campaign photography across Orange County and Southern California.
How far in advance should we book?
For weddings and larger productions, reach out as early as possible. Smaller portrait and content sessions can often be scheduled within a few weeks.
Do you offer bilingual coverage?
Yes. Merchan Films can work in English and Spanish, from the first conversation through interviews and production.
